What to expect at a Korean restaurant
Korean restaurants range from tabletop barbecue, where you grill marinated meats yourself, to soup and stew houses, fried chicken shops and casual spots serving bibimbap and noodles. Almost every meal comes with banchan – small complimentary side dishes such as kimchi, pickled vegetables and seasoned greens that are usually refilled on request.
What to order
- Bulgogi or galbi – marinated beef for the grill
- Bibimbap – rice bowl with vegetables, egg and chili paste, often in a hot stone pot
- Kimchi jjigae or soondubu – comforting stews
- Korean fried chicken – soy-garlic or spicy glaze
Good to know
- Banchan refills are free – just ask.
- Barbecue restaurants often require at least two orders of meat per table.
